One of the nation's most well-known high school baseball coaches will be at University School next spring.

Thursday, the school announced it had hired Rich Hofman as its new baseball coach.

Hofman, who has previously coached at Piper, Westminster Academy and Westminster Christian, arrives at University with a 965-246-16 career record. His teams have won 10 state championships and two national titles. He also owns a state-record five consecutive state titles won from 1996 to 2000.

"We are fortunate to get someone with his experience," University School Athletic Director Roger Harriott said in a statement released by the school. "Not only has he had more than 200 former high school athletes go on to play college baseball, but more than 40 professional baseball players have been drafted as a result of his knowledge of the game."

Hofman, who coached both Alex Rodriguez and Doug Mientkiewicz, was named Baseball America's Coach of the Decade for the 1990s.
